Birth Preparation Workshop

This workshop gives a practical understanding of the physiological process of birth. To help you prepare for and understand birth we outline a typical birth experience and go through a birth ‘rehearsal’ considering which yoga and massage techniques can assist at each stage of the labour.

The birthing partner gets involved in a practical way and gains an empathetic understanding of what labour is like.

During the workshop we consider

Yogic pain management: movement, breathing techniques and visualisation.
Massage in labour. The birthing partner learns very useful and effective massage strokes and acupressure points that relieve pain and support labour.
Typical birth behaviours and the link to birth hormones
Understanding and becoming familiar with the rhythm of contractions through sound, movement and drawing.
Understanding foetal positioning, and foetal descent and how the movements and positioning of the mother can help the baby’s way through the pelvis

The workshop places emphasis on gaining knowledge and understanding through practice and experience. It is important that each couple gets the chance to experience and rehearse the yoga and massage techniques before labour. This ensures a familiarity with, as well as a smooth and effective application of such techniques.

Dialogue, exchange and the asking of questions are all welcome.

The workshop finishes with refreshments and a birthing story from a couple (who have previously attended the workshop).

Each couple receives a comprehensive handout, to help refresh the memory.

The cost of the workshop is £50 per couple. A deposit of £20 is required. Please make cheques payable to SOPHIA ANSARI. Unfortunately if you cancel your place this deposit is not refunded.
